little girls on a scary road

once upon a time it was
ribbons and pearls
boys with good manners
pink dresses and curls.

today it's all x-box, game-cubes and
gin
boys with no mannners
drugs to fit in.

where are the gentle ladies of old
who knew right from wrong,
whose hearts were pure gold?

We need our ideals, even if they could never be. 'Once upon a time' must also be 'in the not-so-distant future'in order that it might have the possibility of affecting 'this instant'. 'Once upon a time' alone can be the lathargic cynic's delight and 'in the not-so-distant future' alone can be the passive dreamer's curse; it is only when the two link arms in the activity of the present that such dreams ever could have been realized now.

Yeah I think I understand what you're saying..things have changed alot..over, actually, a really short period of time. It IS reeally scary..a lot of people I thought I knew do things I would NEVER think they would do..and things like that impact everyone..so, I really don't know what happened..I also miss when kids wern't in a hurry to "grow up" so fast, good write
